PSG were beaten by Marseille in the Coupe de France earlier this month and the Parisians then also lost to AS Monaco in the league and Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
However, for PSG, who missed Neymar in Marseille, the match at the rival started badly. Presnel Kimpembe fell in the 13th minute and was seemingly motionless on the pitch for a long time. The Frenchman was quick to return from an injury which also sidelined him from the World Cup. He moved again, but was taken off the pitch on a stretcher.
Mbappé opened the scoring for the visitors in the 25th minute. The striker went deep on a pass from Messi and looped in without hesitation. Four minutes later, Mbappé allows Messi to score his 700th club goal. Before the break, both forwards had chances for another goal.
In the second half, Marseille tried through Alexis Sánchez and Sead Kolasinac, but the PSG attacking duo struck again mercilessly. In a quick counterattack, Mbappé received the ball from Messi with an arc and fired into the far right corner to make it 3-0. It was Mbappe’s 200th goal for PSG, equaling Edinson Cavani’s record.
