Bayern have 46 points from the win, as does Dortmund, who won 1-0 at Hoffenheim on Saturday. However, the Munich club leads due to better goal difference. Union, last Thursday still winner of Ajax in the Europa League, remains at 43 points. That’s one more than RB Leipzig and two more than SC Freiburg, who were 1-1 against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting put Bayern ahead with a 31st-minute header, which started with Matthijs de Ligt in the starting lineup. Less than 10 minutes later, Kingsley Coman scored the second goal on a pass from Thomas Müller. In extra time of the first half it even became 3-0 through Jamal Musiala, again from a Müller cross and it was almost certain that Union were on their way to the first defeat of 2023.
Union who started with Danilo Doekhi and former ADO player Sheraldo Becker tried to do something after the break but the biggest chances were again for the home team. Goalkeeper Frederik Rønnow made a save on bets from Müller and Alphonso Davies.
At Bayern, Sadio Mané made his comeback in the second half. The Senegalese picked up the injury ahead of the World Cup in November. Daley Blind and Ryan Gravenberch remained on the bench.
