Snowboarding star Michelle Dekker claimed her first-ever World Cup victory in Italy. The 26-year-old Dutchman was about three-tenths of a second too fast for her only remaining competitor Aleksandra Krol of Poland in the parallel giant slalom of the final. Dekker had qualified ninth for the final round.

Earlier this year, Dekker surprisingly finished fourth at the Beijing Olympics. She also won bronze at the World Cup in March. “It’s great that I’m the best now,” says Dekker. “It gives a lot of peace and confidence to keep building. I’m very happy with this result.”
